Shefcast Digital commences test transmissions

Shefcast Digital, the DAB operator for Sheffield and Rotherham, has commenced test transmissions from Tapton Hill, Sheffield, the first of two transmission sites to be installed for the new DAB network.

Ofcom compliance tests have been successfully completed and six new digital radio services are on the air in Sheffield and Rotherham as part of prelaunch tests. A further transmission site in Rotherham is to be added in the coming weeks prior to the full launch of the new digital radio service.

Shefcast Digital will have capacity to carry 25 to 30 new digital radio services, greatly increasing the choice of listening available to audiences in Sheffield and Rotherham. The Shefcast Digital network has a projected transmission coverage of 569,000 adults for in home reception and over 750,000 when outdoor and in vehicle reception is included.
